Dunlop's involvement in racing began at the close of the 19th century when our founder, John Boyd Dunlop, invented pneumatic tyres to help his son win pedal-cycle races.
Ever since, our stature in the world of motorsport has been peerless. Here's a brief summary of our racing presence over the years:
- 1950s and 1960s: main tyre supplier for Formula One Grand Prix
- 1960s and 1970s: main tyre supplier to World Rally works teams, including Saab, Ford, Leyland, Mini, Volvo, Rootes, and Audi in the UK
- 1980s: supplier to Jaguar and Porsche in Group C sports car racing that gave us an unbeaten record of 34 victories in 69 races
- 1990s: supplier to Audi in Super Touring Car, won six worldwide touring championships in one year, and supplied the first Japanese Le Mans winner in 1991
- 2000: a partnership with Bentley in Le Mans that helped them to a podium position after 70 years absence
- 2002: the sole tyre supplier to the 2002 British GT Championship and German DTM series
- 2003 - 2006: sole supplier to the British Touring Car Championship
