After all, we have been around almost as long as motoring itself. We are part of the heritage which fuels your passion. Our founder, John Boyd Dunlop, invented the first practical pneumatic car tyre more than a century ago, in 1887, and his tyres were being fitted to early production cars just three years later.
Given that pedigree, you will understand why no tyre company cares more about the traditions of classic motoring than Dunlop.
More importantly, you will appreciate why no other company is better equipped to enable today's enthusiasts to remain loyal to those traditions. We know that you want not just compatibility, but authenticity. For your classic car, only the genuine article is good enough. Dunlop provides it.
The company with the most illustrious past is also the company that leads the world in tyre technology. So the Classic/vintage range not only offers an enormous choice of classic designs and original tread patterns, it also ensures that your classic is ready to take safely to modern roads, with their congestion, higher speeds and more demanding surfaces.
It brings contemporary standards of quality and safety to classic motoring, whilst retaining tyre authenticity. Dunlop tyres were the best when they were originally fitted to your classic car. They are even better now.
Over a century has passed since the motor car revolutionised our lives and our lifestyle. And through it all Dunlop has been ever-present, supplying some of the most exciting cars and the most illustrious marques in motoring history. From the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost to the Jaguar E type, Dunlop has been and remains the classic choice.
The Bartlett tyre with beads modified to hook under turned over-rim flange.
In 1890, W E Bartlett designed and patented the beaded-edge tyre as an alternative removable tyre to the 'Welch wire type'. To this day, Dunlop still manufactures quality beaded-edge tyres for discerning vintage vehicle owners the world over.
Some words of caution, however. Turning corners too quickly on today's high grip roads can pull the tyre bead from its rim seating which will deflate the tyre or, worse, cause a blowout. Low inflation pressure or sharp edges to the rim flange turn-over due to corrosion or incorrect restoration, only make the problem worse. So, for best performance:For further information on the care of beaded-edge tyres please order our classic leaflet.
